Serrapeptase is an enzyme that is derived form silkworms. It has been traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory agent but is presently used as a joint health supplement. Serrapeptase works by helping the body break down protein and might also decrease mucous. It has been used to treat some conditions involving pain and inflammation such as sinusitis, laryngitis, sore throat, ear infections, thrombophlebitis, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease. Moreover, it has been used by women for non-cancerous lumpy breasts and by nursing mothers for breast pain brought about by breast engorgement from too much milk.

Glucosamine is an important building block needed by the body to manufacture specialized molecules called glycosaminoglycans, found in cartilage.
