Ruscus aculeatus ReviewRuscus aculeatus, also known as Butcher's broom, is a low evergreen Eurasian shrub wherein its roots are used to make as medicine. The chemicals that are contained in Ruscus aculeatus may cause the blood vessels to narrow or constrict and may improve blood circulation in the legs by preventing blood from pooling in the veins. Ruscus aculeatus has been used for the treatment of atherosclerosis, gallstones, hemorrhoids, and symptoms of poor blood circulation such as pain, leg cramps, leg swelling, heaviness, varicose veins, itching, and swelling. Moreover, it has also been used as a laxative, diuretic, to reduce swelling, and to speed the healing of fractures. It is also known as Butcher's Broom, Jew's Myrtle, Knee Holly, Kneeholm, Pettigree, Sweet Broom.
