They have been using it traditionally in Africa as an aphrodisiac and the roots of which are prescribed to men with impotence problems. With regards to this, a study conducted proves that Bulbine natalensis boosted the testerone levels in male rats by over 300% while a 30% decrease in estrogen was noted. In this way, this aphrodisiac is known to boost libido thus heightening sexual interest. On the other hand, the leaves sap of Bulbine natalensis is used for topical purposes such as cracked lips and burns. The aqueous extract of the leaves are also used as an anti-diabetic and anti-rheumatoid purposes as well as for gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, vomiting and convulsions. However, further researches and clinical studies should be performed to know more about this herb. It is also known as ibhucu, rooiwortel, ingcelwane.
